Session Intro
In these beginner skate classes, we’ll work together through core skate moves and principles. The sessions will cover both Jam skating (dance skating) and general skating technique. Building up our confidence and repertoire, and learning to use our bodies and feet to feel balanced. Moves and techniques will be introduced in stages, allowing you to work on refining an element or pushing yourself to the next level.
What is Jam skating?
Jam skating, also known as rhythm skating in the US, is a contemporary dance skate style. It's all about moving to the beat and developing your unique flow on wheels. While still a developing scene in the UK, it's gaining popularity, and you'll often see jam skaters at the centre of the rink, expressing themselves with intricate footwork and smooth transitions. Principles of jam skating can also help with other parts of your skating such as balance and transitions and general skate flow.
What you'll Learn
Each week, we’ll work through new moves as well as recap routines from previous classes, depending on the interests of those in attendance. With small group sizes, you'll receive plenty of individualised feedback alongside group instruction.
Your Instructor
You'll be in excellent hands! I've been teaching roller skating two to three times a week for over three years and have also developed some of the most popular online skate tutorials. My extensive practice and dedication to refining my own technique and style mean you'll have an experienced guide to kickstart your jam skate journey.

Protective wrist guards and knee pads are advised for your safety while learning. Helmets are elbow pads if you want extra protection.
Toe stops or Jam plugs
Toe stops or Jam plugs are required to protect the floor. Although Jam plugs are advised for the type of skating we will be learning as it gives you more room to move your feet. However newer skaters are often more confident starting out with the stoppers so please wear whichever you feel confident with.
